Hmm...I failed D:

Post  Xys' Tel Unaki on Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:59 pm

Dammit, my grandpa came over today and we fought...Hes a veteran SCA fighter and he used my sword and shield while I used my kite and axe...Bleh...I couldnt get around him! He holds his shield out and to the left while he throws crazy amounts of shots from the right >.<

I couldnt even hit his open spots. God...I must get better -.-

I wish I could have seen how he fought. Sounds interesting

I think your choice of gear had quite a bit to do with it. Axes are normally bad for 1v1 combat in my opinion. Not to mention that your kite shield weighs about as much as a coffee table. Even so, if he was throwing a ton of shots, he probably wasn't paying all that much attention to your weapon. He seems to have been focusing on getting a shot on you as quickly and ineffectively as possible. If his shield stance is correct as to what I'm thinking, more of his chest should be exposed than normal. If so, just get a quick swipe off with your axe and he's done.

Unakis axe is super short, so it wouldn't have been easy.

Still, there's always a chance that the swing would have been successful. If it was, +2 to Unaki's self-esteem.

research before you make statements on nothing you know. There are two shield stances, Offensive and defensive. In an offensive stance the shield-side leg will be positioned back. In defensive it will be forward. His grandpa was obviously using the offensive stance and knew perfectly well how to guard himself. Go SCA fighters!
